Overview
NGO DARPAN is an initiative under NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India), a policy think tank of the Government of India. The NGO DARPAN Portal is an online platform for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society organizations (CSOs) to register and avail various government grants, schemes, and resources. The portal ensures transparency, accountability, and streamlines communication between the Government and NGOs.
The objective of the portal is to create a database of accredited NGOs that can efficiently access government funding, collaborate on social development projects, and share their activities and outcomes.
Who Needs to Register on the NGO DARPAN Portal?
NGOs, Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that wish to:
1. Access Government Grants: Many government departments and ministries provide funding opportunities, and registration on the portal allows access to those funds.
2. Collaborate with Government Bodies: NGOs seeking to partner with the government for various social development projects or schemes.
3. Enhance Transparency: NGOs that aim to demonstrate transparency, accountability, and good governance in their operations.
4. Legally Establish Identity: Provide a recognized digital identity and ensure compliance with government regulations.

Benefits of NGO DARPAN Registration
1. Access to Government Funding:
Registration enables NGOs to apply for various government grants and funding schemes aimed at social and community development.
2. Collaboration with Government Bodies:
Registered NGOs can collaborate with central and state governments on various welfare projects and programs.
3. Transparency and Credibility:
Being registered on the portal provides legitimacy, increases visibility, and enhances the NGO’s credibility among donors, the public, and other stakeholders.
4. Eligibility for Government Schemes:
Several government departments, such as the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Social Justice, and Ministry of Women and Child Development, require NGOs to be registered on the DARPAN portal to be eligible for schemes.
5. Improved Accountability:
The portal ensures that NGOs maintain transparency in their operations, accounts, and fund usage, fostering trust with the public and funding agencies.
6. Access to Partnership Opportunities:
Registered NGOs may be invited to partner with government organizations or private sector players for development programs.
The UIN is a unique registration ID assigned to each registered NGO by NITI Aayog. It is required to access various government funding opportunities, apply for grants, and demonstrate your NGO’s legitimacy when collaborating with other organizations.
Once the application is submitted, the verification process typically takes 7 to 10 working days. However, it can take longer if additional documentation or information is required.
Foreign NGOs can register on the NGO DARPAN portal only if they have a legal presence in India. They must comply with the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) and other Indian regulations before registration.
Yes, if there are any changes in the details of the NGO (e.g., address, contact information, bank details), the NGO can update the information through the NGO DARPAN portal.
The registration is valid as long as the NGO continues to meet the requirements and maintains compliance. NGOs are expected to renew/update their details periodically, and failure to comply may result in the suspension of their registration.
While the portal is primarily designed for Indian NGOs, international NGOs operating in India or seeking to collaborate on projects may also register if they comply with the relevant Indian laws (e.g., FCRA).
