The MSME registration process is governed by the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 and is done through the Udyam Registration Portal.

Types of MSMEs

1.     Micro Enterprises:

o    Manufacturing or Service: Investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed ₹1 crore and turnover does not exceed ₹5 crore.

2.     Small Enterprises:

o    Manufacturing or Service: Investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed ₹10 crore and turnover does not exceed ₹50 crore.

3.     Medium Enterprises:

o    Manufacturing or Service: Investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed ₹50 crore and turnover does not exceed ₹250 crore.

Documents Required for MSME Registration

1.     Aadhaar Card (of the applicant or authorized signatory).

2.     PAN Card (of the business or applicant).

Important Points to Note

1.     Self-declaration:

o   MSME registration is based on self-declaration, and businesses are not required to submit supporting documents or certificates, except for basic details like PAN and Aadhaar.

2.     Udyam Registration Validity:

o  MSME registration is valid for a lifetime, but businesses must update the details annually based on turnover and investment changes.

3.     Udyam Registration vs. Udyog Aadhar:

o   The Udyog Aadhar registration process was replaced by Udyam Registration starting from July 1, 2020. Businesses that were previously registered under Udyog Aadhar must re-register on the Udyam Portal.
